About Us

Established in 2013, The Initiative: Glengarry to Marentette, , is a non-profit neighbourhood renewal strategy funded by the United Way Centraide Windsor-Essex. The Initiative’s primary mandate is to support the priorities and needs of the people of the Glengarry residential corridor (Glengarry Ave. E. to the West; Marentette Ave. to the East; Riverside Dr. E. to the North and Wyandotte St. E. to the South) in hopes of celebrating and developing community, ownership, and leadership among the residents of the area. To accomplish the goal of supporting residents, the Initiative uses a community development model based in macro social work practice known as community capacity development. The community capacity development approach emphasizes engaging those affected by community challenges and empowering them with the knowledge and skills to understand and overcome said challenges. Using this approach the Initiative attempts to work cooperatively with the people of the neighbourhood as well as other community stakeholders (e.g. city officials, area businesses and community leaders) to find ways to break down barriers hindering community growth.
Our Mission |
The Initiative seeks to support the people of Glengarry-Marentette by celebrating and promoting the neighbourhood’s assets and successes, strengthening relationships, and developing resources both within and outside the neighbourhood. The Initiative helps people to take ownership over the present and future of Glengarry-Marentette by removing obstacles that discourage them.
|
Our Vision |
The Initiative envisions a thriving and distinct Glengarry-Marentette, one of many vibrant neighbourhoods in Windsor, where neighbours work and celebrate together and have taken ownership of the community’s future.
